Bringing Ecological & Social Awareness to our Daily Lives

Do not feel that you do not matter.

Do not feel that your actions do not concern or affect anyone else.

You are valuable not only to your family, friends, race, nation but you are valuable to Earth.

Your actions affect her and all the living things like you connected to her. We breathe the same air and pollution. We experience the same climate changes but suffer differently.

You may be put into danger ...

of road accidents due to the extreme cold weather, or be inconvenienced in your business travels; while another person like you, may be crying because of the tsunami that took her children.

At the same time, another person just like you, may be going insane because of the hurricane that destroyed his home and the way of life he took for granted.

We are only aware of the angry earth. When it seeks retribution from our carelessness; for a moment, we increase our efforts on repairing what we have damaged.

We may plant more trees or buy electric cars. But why not increase our efforts to nurture and protect Earth in our everyday lives?

We cannot afford to remain unconcerned.

  • All of us need to turn off the light more and stop ourselves from switching on the air-conditioner.
  • We have to join organizations that pressure the government to make alternative sources of energy more available to ordinary homeowners.
  • How come solar power until now is not affordable and widespread in our homes?
  • How come ecological practices are only practical for rich people in Hollywood?

One thing we all are guilty of is the amount of food we waste.

Tons of leftover food are dumped in land disposals. We are running out of space to dump our waste.

But we also go on diets and engage in too much physical exercise to burn the calories we have consumed without restraint or discipline.

I also used to exercise for more than four hours a day. But my commonsense rebuked me to just eat the proper amount of food so I can just do 45 minutes or one hour of exercise each day. We can have more time and energy to work, to read, to spend time with our family, friends, care for our pets and do ten more things that can enrich and bring joy to our lives.

Restaurants can also serve Eco-friendly Meals in terms of portion size.

The price need not be lowered too much than the full portion meal because the revenue generated can be donated to organizations that fight "World Hunger and Poverty".This would be reflected in the food receipts. The restaurant owner can be rewarded by the government's 'green program' through tax deductions.

We have to think of more ways to bring the abstract concept of "Ecological and Social Awareness" down to our daily lives.

My suggestions may be faulty but there is a need for more ideas on how to bring it down to the level of ordinary people with average incomes and average civic awareness.

We need programs for "yellow-green people" so we can turn them into "bright green people" someday.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been connected to the web since 1993 but HubPages offers more free, helpful information than any site I have known. It's like an online library, but instead of 200+ pages books, I get to know useful tips in just one page. The members have more energy than other online communities I know. Several new postings everyday!

In just two days, I got useful tips in fiction writing and stock photography. If I put into action what I have read, I'd be one very skilled lady in a few months! haha...hopefully with more part-time income too.
